About Irene Agosta (1934-2006)

Sister Agosta was an extraordinary union activist and a leader in our movement. A proud member of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 415, AFL-CIO, from its founding in 1976, Irene's accomplishments were many - serving as Local President and Vice-President; representing County workers on numerous negotiating teams; working on the Pay Equity, Personnel, Member Recognition, Political Action, and countless other committees; serving as a long-term delegate to Santa Cruz County and later, Monterey Bay Central Labor Councils; representing SEIU Local 415 at the California State Council of Service Employees and a serving as a delegate to several SEIU International conventions.

For many, Irene was a familiar face at local union and political events. She worked on many campaigns and lobbied elected officials in both Sacramento and Santa Cruz on behalf of working people.
